Nicha’s Design Philosophy on the Phuang Malai

The Malai is one of the most meaningful expressions of Thai culture, carrying respect, honour and ceremony in a form that has always been ephemeral.

I wanted to extend that meaning.

To make the Malai not only a gesture but also a lasting symbol of identity and distinction, marking institutional milestones, successful collaborations and family achievements.

To reach that stature, it had to become eternal.

Freed from the limits of fresh flowers, it can now remain as a keepsake long after the occasion, while also evolving through color, form and scale and preserving the cultural meaning at its core.

From ephemeral flowers to a lasting emblem designed to embody your story.


We use the medal, but we have more than that. We have the Malai.

Nicha's craftsmanship is the result of years of innovative creations which reside at the junction of flower threading, knotting, embroidery, crochet and sewing techniques.

Corporate Phuang Malai FAQ

What are Nicha's Phuang Malai made of?

Every Malai is handcrafted from natural cotton. Some designs are finished with dried flowers for a natural touch, others with a metallic blended thread for a radiant finish.

Can our Malai carry our logo colours, our flag colours or a name engraving?

Yes. We match the Malai to your corporate identity or your national flag, and we can engrave a name or a short message. There is no minimum order for custom pieces.

How far ahead should we order?

Plan for about one month of crafting. For bulk orders or a fixed event date, contact us as early as possible so we can reserve your production slot.

Which Malai fits which guest?

For delegations and larger guest lists, the Malai Petite Corporate & Diplomatic carries your colours in a simple form. For official visits and key partners, the Diplomatic & Corporate Malai is our signature piece. For your most senior guests, the Malai Empress and the Malai Princess Purity make the level of respect unmistakable. For a milestone celebrated at your office, the Malai Queen Purity is a centrepiece made to be displayed.

Can we give a Malai to a Thai government official?

Thailand's National Anti-Corruption Commission (2020 notification) allows a government official to accept a gift of up to THB 3,000 per person per occasion from a non-relative. Several of our pieces sit within that limit: the Malai Glin Rak (THB 499), the Malai Petite Corporate & Diplomatic (THB 1,590), the Diplomatic & Corporate Malai (THB 2,690) and the Malai Chaad (THB 2,690). Rules can change, so always check the regulations in force with the official's agency before giving. Macrame by Nicha cannot be held responsible for how a gift is received or declared.

How do we care for the Malai?

Keep it in a dry place, away from direct sunlight, and dust it gently with a soft brush or cloth. Cared for this way, it keeps its beauty for years.

Do you ship abroad?

Yes. We deliver across Thailand, and abroad with Thailand Post. Contact us for international shipping options and rates.

Can we return a Malai?

For standard pieces, contact us within 7 days of delivery and send the item back unused within 14 days. Custom pieces made in your colours or with an engraving are final sale.
