Malai Cuty : The Mother's Day Flower Garland

On Mother's Day, Thais give their mother a phuang malai. It says thank you, respect and love in one gesture, without a word needing to be said.

The Malai Cuty is that gesture, made to be kept. A flower garland threaded by hand from dried flowers and cotton, it holds its beauty long after the day, where a fresh jasmine garland wilts by evening.

It arrives ready to give: a gift box, and a greeting card for your own words.

Why a garland on Mother's Day

Thai Mother's Day falls on 12 August, the Queen Mother's birthday, and the garland is its gift. Children offer it at their mother's feet or place it in her hands as a gesture of gratitude and respect. It is one of the few gifts in Thailand whose meaning needs no explanation.

A fresh garland carries that meaning for a day. The Malai Cuty carries it for years: the same gesture, kept on a shelf or an altar, still holding its colour next Mother's Day.

How do you care for a phuang malai?

Caring for your garland is what keeps it beautiful and keeps it looking new for years. A phuang malai is a treasured object in a home or on an altar, so it deserves attention. Here is how to look after yours properly.

  • Handle it gently. Always treat the garland with a light touch. Dried flowers and cotton are delicate and damage easily. Keep handling to a minimum.
  • Keep it out of direct sunlight. Direct sun fades dried flowers and cotton. Keep your garland somewhere dry and cool.
  • Keep it dry. Damp causes mould and mildew, which damages dried flowers and cotton. Avoid storing the garland anywhere with high humidity.
  • Dust it regularly. Dust and dirt settle on dried flowers and cotton and make a piece look dull. Brush it lightly with a soft brush or a cloth to lift dust and cobwebs away.

Cared for properly, your garland becomes a treasured object in your home or on your altar for many years.

Questions people ask

How long does the Malai Cuty last?

Years. It is made from dried flowers and cotton, so it keeps its shape and colour where a fresh jasmine garland wilts within a day. Kept out of direct sun and damp, it will still be beautiful next Mother's Day.

Does it come gift-wrapped?

Yes. It arrives in a gift box ready to give.

Can it arrive before Mother's Day on 12 August?

Yes, if you order early. During the Mother's Day period delivery within Thailand takes around 5 to 7 working days, so order by the first days of August to be safe. For urgent orders, contact us on Facebook or Instagram.

Is it made from fresh or dried flowers?

Dried flowers and cotton, with no plastic. That is what lets it last for years instead of a day.
