Colour follows custom and birth day belief, with no official rule. Yellow and gold are safest: yellow is สีกาลกิณี (the inauspicious colour for a given birth day) for no day and auspicious for four of the seven.
Black and red depend on the birth day (black is auspicious for Monday and Tuesday, red is กาลกิณี for Monday), and black wrapping reads as mourning. Unsure of the birth day? Use yellow, gold or the organisation's colours, especially on the wrapping, ribbon and card.
Does a civil service retirement keepsake differ from a private sector one?
Two differences. Value: under the NACC announcement of B.E. 2563 (2020), gifts above THB 3,000 per person per occasion must be reported (see section 2 above).
Date: under section 19 of the Government Pension Act B.E. 2494 (1951), civil servants who reach 60 leave service at the end of the fiscal year, so ceremonies cluster at the end of September.
