Malai Prestige Silver: Money Coming In, a Bright Future Ahead

In Thai, silver and money share one word: เงิน (ngern). For centuries silver was the money Thais earned and spent every day, and even the baht began as a weight of silver.

To offer the Malai Prestige Silver is to wish someone money coming in and a bright future ahead, at the start of something new.

How do you care for a phuang malai?

Caring for your garland is what keeps it beautiful and keeps it looking new for years. A phuang malai is a treasured object in a home or on an altar, so it deserves attention. Here is how to look after yours properly.

  • Handle it gently. Always treat the garland with a light touch to keep every detail in place.
  • Keep it out of direct sunlight. Keep your garland somewhere dry and cool to preserve its radiance.
  • Keep it dry. Avoid storing the garland anywhere with high humidity.
  • Dust it regularly. Brush it lightly with a soft brush or a cloth to lift dust and cobwebs away.

Cared for properly, your garland becomes a treasured object in your home or on your altar for many years.

Silver and money: a wish for a good start

Ask a Thai person the word for silver, then the word for money, and you will hear the same answer twice: เงิน (ngern).

The reason is history. For about 600 years, from the Sukhothai kingdom in the 13th century to the Rattanakosin era, Thais paid in phot duang: small bars of silver, bent into a round shape and stamped with the marks of the kingdom. Silver was the money of every day, earned, spent and earned again.

Even the baht was a weight before it was a currency. One baht of money was one baht of silver, about 15.2 grams.

That is the meaning of the Malai Prestige Silver: a handcrafted garland that wishes money coming in to someone at the start of their road.

It suits a first job, a graduate's first salary, a new business and its first sales, a new chapter, or anyone setting out towards a bright future.

Sprinkle your favourite scent over the garland to make it truly yours.

The Malai Prestige Silver is a wish for a good start and a bright future, made to be kept long after the day it is given.
