Pla Ta Pian Baby Mobile, a Blessing Above the Cradle 🐟✨
▶ Pre-order only.
▶ A new concept and we will very happy to make it for you!
----------------
This is a piece we have been dreaming about.
The photo you see is our first prototype. The Pla Ta Pian Baby Mobile is a brand new concept, and we would love to create the very first ones with you, in the colours you choose, for the little one you are waiting for, or your friend.
For generations, Thai families have hung the pla ta pian, the auspicious woven fish, above a baby's cradle, a wish for a child who grows up healthy, easy to raise and prosperous. We wanted to carry that tradition into today's nursery, knotted by hand in soft cotton.
What Goes Into Your Mobile
- 🐟 Pla ta pian fish in several colours, the auspicious Thai fish traditionally placed above the cradle
- 🎀 Round cotton pompoms in several colours
- 🔔 Several silver bells that ring softly
- 📿 A line of colourful beads, inspired by the accessories Akha women wear on their very large necklaces
Tell us the colours you love, the colour of the baby's birth day, or the shades of the nursery, and we will build the mobile around them.

Why a Pla Ta Pian Above the Cradle?
The pla ta pian (barb fish) began as ปลาตะเพียนสาน (the woven barb fish), a small fish woven from strips of palm leaf in Ayutthaya. On 29 January 2024, it was added to Thailand's national intangible cultural heritage list for traditional craftsmanship.
Over a baby's cradle, the fish gives the little one something to watch, and it carries a wish that the child will be easy to raise, grow quickly and prosper. Thailand's national heritage record adds that the child will grow up with พากเพียร (perseverance), a play on ตะเพียน (barb fish).
Our mobile is a contemporary cotton take on that tradition, made to hang in a modern nursery for years.
Hanging It Safely
This mobile is a decoration, made to be looked at. The American Academy of Pediatrics advises that a mobile is firmly fixed to the wall or ceiling, high enough that the baby cannot pull it down, and removed when the baby can get up on hands and knees or at 5 months, whichever comes first.
After that, it can move to the wall or a window of the child's room, where it keeps its blessing in sight.
Who This Is For
For parents to be, it is a nursery piece made around your own colours and your own wishes for your baby.
For grandparents, it is a warm ของรับขวัญหลาน (gift to welcome a grandchild), with a tradition behind it that the whole family recognises.
For friends visiting a new family, it is a ของขวัญเด็กแรกเกิด (newborn gift) that nobody else will bring, because it is made only for them.
