25 indoor team building activities for companies in Bangkok, with group sizes and formats

Looking for team building activities your whole company can enjoy indoors? Here are 25 ideas, from craft workshops to puzzles and quick office games, each with its group size, duration, space needed and what it builds.
The figures are ranges, because organisers run each format differently. Where a number changes from one format to the next, we say "varies by format", so you can plan with real expectations.
If you'd like a hands-on activity that comes to your office in Bangkok, our macrame workshops are a good place to start.
What is team building, and does it work?
The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) describes team building activities as "interventions designed to improve how people work together." UC Berkeley's HR team calls it "an ongoing process that helps a work group evolve into a cohesive unit."
And yes, it works. A 2009 meta-analysis by Klein and colleagues, published in Small Group Research, looked at 579 teams and found that team building has "a positive moderate effect across all team outcomes."
The effect was strongest on how people feel about their team and how they work together. Of the components studied, goal setting and role clarification came out strongest.
SHRM adds that good team development activities "improve coordination, reduce internal conflict, and increase collaboration efficiency." An earlier review by Salas and colleagues (2008) found they improve both a team's objective performance and its supervisory ratings.
How to choose an indoor team building activity
Start with the goal
Ask yourself one question first: what do you want your team to get out of the experience? SHRM's advice is to align the activity with a specific team objective, give priority to problem-solving and mix people from different teams.
Afterwards, collect participation and feedback, and listen to what your people honestly say.
Match the group size and the time you have
Some activities suit a small team, others scale to hundreds. Large groups need team rotation, activity timing, scoring systems, facilitation and a plan for crowd flow.
If time or space is tight, short indoor games work well. For getting to know each other, pick an icebreaker. For communication, pick a problem-solving game.
Think about space and mixed ages
Choose a venue that is easy to reach and has everything people need. Indoor activities work all year round and suit mixed-age groups and teams who prefer lower physical activity.
For a mixed group, pick something inclusive, where everybody can contribute in different ways, and fit the activity to your team's interests and ages.
