What a Mother's Day garland costs in 2026
Before you go, know the price. The Department of Internal Trade runs a price survey at Pak Khlong Talat and Yodpiman ahead of Mother's Day every year, and publishes the fair range. Anything far above these numbers is worth walking away from.

Prices climb in the days before 12 August, and further when rain cuts the jasmine supply. The DIT requires clear price display at the surveyed markets and prosecutes overcharging, so compare two or three stalls before you buy.

ICONCRAFT is the largest curated space for Thai artisan craft in the country, on floors 4 and 5 of Iconsiam (over 2,500 square metres) and floor 3 of Siam Discovery, open 10:00 to 22:00. This is where to look for a handmade piece rather than fresh flowers, and the crafted-souvenir zones are worth the trip on their own.

Chinatown and Sampheng
MRT Wat Mangkon, exit 1, about 200 metres to Yaowarat and five to ten minutes on foot to Sampheng. The day market runs roughly 08:00 to 18:00, and the famous wholesale rush is 04:00 to 06:00 from Monday night through Saturday night. Fresh garlands at friendly prices, in the middle of the best street food in the city.

BTS Mo Chit exit 1 (about 400 metres) or MRT Kamphaeng Phet exit 2, which opens straight into the market. Saturdays and Sundays for the main market; the plant and garden zone runs midweek. A wide choice from traditional to contemporary, and everything else you could want under one roof.

Pak Khlong Talat, Bangkok
Thailand's largest flower market, on Chak Phet Road, MRT Sanam Chai exits 4 or 5. It is open 24 hours, and the market is at its best between 04:00 and 08:00, when the garlands are being threaded in front of you. It has been a flower market since the late 1950s, and it is where the government price survey is taken, so the ranges in the table above apply here. Expect crowds on 12 August itself.

Tri Phet flower market, next to Pak Khlong Talat
A few steps from Pak Khlong Talat and much calmer. The garland stalls here sell jasmine malai both retail and wholesale, made by florists who have been doing it for decades. If the main market feels overwhelming on Mother's Day morning, walk here instead.

On Phran Nok to Phutthamonthon Sai 4 Road on the Thonburi side, open 24 hours. Thai and imported flowers, plus everything for merit-making: incense, candles and sangkhathan sets. Reported cheaper than the general markets. Make a morning of it with a stop at Khlong Lat Mayom floating market nearby.

On Phahonyothin Road in Rangsit, about ten minutes from Don Mueang airport. The flower zone is open 24 hours, every day, wholesale and retail, and it was recently rebuilt as a modern flower market covering flowers, garlands and floral decoration services. The best prices if you need several garlands, and the obvious stop if you are flying in the night before.

Sundays only, from about 17:00 to 22:00, running roughly a kilometre from Tha Phae Gate along Ratchadamnoen Road to Wat Phra Singh. Local makers sell alongside the food stalls, and Chiang Mai is famous for artists of every kind, so this is where you find the one-of-a-kind piece.

Warorot market, Chiang Mai
Chiang Mai's great market, known locally as Kad Luang, on Wichayanon Road and open from around 06:00 to 19:00. It is named after Chao Inthawarorot, the eighth ruler of Chiang Mai, and reopened in 1972 after a fire destroyed it. For flowers, walk to the Ton Lamyai market frontage right beside it, where the fresh flower and garland stalls are.
Fresh or a garland that lasts: how to choose
A fresh jasmine garland is the tradition and its scent is the point. At 35 to 100 baht for the sizes most people buy, it costs little, and it is gone within a day. That is what it is made for.
A garland in cotton and dried flowers gives up the scent and keeps everything else, for years. If your mum keeps the things you give her, that is the one she wants. And if you cannot be with her on the day, it is the only kind that survives the post.
The two are not in competition. Many families give both: fresh flowers for the morning, and something she can put on the shelf afterwards.
Questions people ask
How much does a Mother's Day garland cost?
It depends on which of three tiers you are buying in.
1 - Everyday fresh garlands. According to the Department of Internal Trade's survey at Pak Khlong Talat, a small jasmine garland runs 35 to 50 baht and a medium one 50 to 100 baht. This is what most people carry home on the morning of 12 August. Prices rise in the days before.
2 - Large and ceremonial fresh garlands. 200 to 300 baht for the large sizes in the same survey, and more for the elaborate ceremonial forms threaded by hand at the market.
3 - Creative and keepsake garlands. A different category altogether: made in cotton, silk or dried flowers rather than fresh blooms, and built to be kept rather than offered once.

Early. Pak Khlong Talat is open 24 hours and is at its best between 04:00 and 08:00, and it gets crowded on Mother's Day itself.
